Ashley Moreland
Fresh out of college, I'm ready to create for you. I'm an experienced writer, editor and page designer with a passion for telling others' stories in a colorful manner through written word and digital art. I am looking for freelance, part-time or full-time work.
My journalism career started in 4-H when I was 10 and served as my club's reporter; I would write briefs about every club meeting for a local newspaper.
The passion for writing continued.
Without journalism classes or a real newspaper at my high school, I taught myself how to write by reading newspapers. In 2003, the summer before my senior year of high school, I was chosen to participate in a two-week high school journalism workshop at Eastern Illinois University hosted by the Illinois Press Association.
After that experience, I knew journalism was the path for me, and I submitted my basic resume and an article to two local newspapers, The Independent News and The Commercial News. As a result, I became a reporter and photographer for the first and a music columnist for the second.
I started my college career at Eastern Illinois University in 2004 as a journalism major. While there I wrote for two student publications, The Daily Eastern News and Pounce Online. In 2008 I transferred to Metropolitan State College of Denver. I started writing for the student paper, The Metropolitan in September of 2009, became the Assistant Features Editor in November 2009, Features Editor in January 2010 and Editor-in-Chief in May 2010.
My experiences as a student journalist did nothing more than fuel my passion for journalism and spark interest in design and social media. Now out of school, I'm looking for a story to tell.
